Top Google Rankings

We all want them right?  Getting to the front page of Google is everyone’s goal.  It’s the most trafficked page so it delivers the most traffic to you.

So, how do you get there?  Especially with all the competition?  There are a number of ways from social media tactics, to tiresome link building and more.  Did I say tiresome?  I MEAN tiresome.

Most of my “work” time is spent building “hub” pages and links and sometimes the link submissions get really mundane.

So, I’m always in the loop of how to get more traffic, how to get good Google rankings and how to simply get found.  My entire existence right now is based on staying updated on the best ways to do this.  I love this stuff.

So I tried a new system for Google rankings.  and it works nicely!  Most current techniques involve social bookmarking (one of my favorites, and very effective) or something totally blackhat, which you have to be careful of, but this one doesn’t – which is one reason it peaked my interest.  I was curious as to what it could be.

It doesn’t take much time at all and you don’t have to keep coming back to it every day, which is great because there’s always so much other stuff that needs attention.

Keywords Tool

(I should have delivered this fab tool and this post to you a long time ago…my apologies.  I’ve been buried under several things I’m working on and I was just using this tool and realized that I haven’t even told you about it!)

Keywords, the “key” “words” people will use to find your site, blog, content, etc.

There are a number of free keyword tools out there and they will suffice for your very basic research but there are also some paid keyword tools out there that will help you really knock the socks off of your competition and dominate a niche if used properly.

Doing in depth keyword research that pulls from a variety of sources, compiles an array of statistics and manages the information for you can be invaluable to your investment in your marketing efforts.

I’ll admit, I’m a cheapO!  If I can do something for free vs. paid, a lot of times I will but I will also admit there is a time and place for everything.  And I’ve found there is definitely a time for doing REAL keyword research…and I’ve found that it can yield serious results.

I have all of the details outlined as to how to perform serious keyword research all by myself, for free but ummm, the time it takes can get a little ridiculous if I want to get down to the nitty gritty, so I finally figured out that it’s not really free after all because I’m investing my time into it.  Time that I could be, and need to be,  investing into something else.  I don’t have endless amounts of time to spend on one thing…unfortunately (if I’d ever just hit that stupid lottery!)

To get to the point, I broke down and tried a paid keyword tool for a $1 trial.  I fell in love.  The simplicity…oh my, it was great!  The results…from the basic to the nitty gritty, in no time.  Everything I needed to know about the keywords in whatever I was working on was right there at my fingertips and it was so easy to manipulate.

What had I been missing out on this whole time that I turned my nose up to paying for something that I thought I could do just as well for free?

And something else I really love is that it’s actually a “service” and not just a “tool”.  It keeps getting better and better; they keep bringing more to the table.

And the customer service is great.  They’re quick to respond and they’re so friendly…something that is a MUST for me.  If your customer service sucks, I’ll toss you to the side quickly.  I despise today’s automation of customer service and I demand a REAL, and friendly, PERSON to handle my questions or concerns.  That’s just me.  I have my standards!

But I like that they are active.  It’s not just “Hey, here’s a tool.  Buy it and we may or may not ever upgrade/deliver higher quality to you; you may or may not get satisfactory customer service; and we may or may not stay involved in what we do on more than one level.”

It’s totally the opposite.  Blah, this is getting longer than I like my reviews to be LOL but I guess that’s because I really like this service a lot and talking about it gets me a little excited!

Okay, so aside from it actually being a “service” (and I’d even go so far to call it a “live service” even though live people aren’t necessarily picking your keywords); having fab customer service, and staying on top of, and in, the game; here are some of the things it does:

• See history and month-by-month keyword activity
• Create a comparison chart that allows you to compare a bunch of keywords and see what’s rising or falling in demand
• Allows you to do what you would normally do in a BUNCH of windows all in one place
• Gathers info from various sources, not just one or two…or even three
• Even find “typo” keywords that can be goldmines
• Find niche products
• Allows you to easily manage your results and prospective keywords
• and more than I can even keep going into!

Social Networking Guide

This is a really great resource guide.  It lists hundreds of Web 2.0  sites in every category and of every niche.  It’s very helpful in finding the sites you want to utilize in your social networking / social marketing journey and it’s also just a great way to find helpful sites.  You’re sure to come up with plenty of ideas while browsing these resources too.  It’s like a ‘phone book’ of Web 2.0 properties.

I really don’t even know where to begin to tell you how much they cover in this guide.  There are over 3,000 sites with a brief explanation of what each site is about.   I consider myself an Internet / Social Media Guru but there are useful sites here I’ve never heard of.

I get most of my backlinks from social sites and as a Social Marketer for hire it’s important I stay up-to-date with developments and sites in my niche.  While I haven’t had time to read the whole directory or make a list of the sites I most want to check out and use, I’m certain it’s going to be very useful to me.  They even have each site entry tagged for easy searching.

It’s got the most popular social networking sites and even new social networking sites (I’m sure more will pop up though!_

Craigslist flagging and ghosting (ad not showing up) CL has a flagging forum, yes!

I’ve posted before about Craigslist flagging problems, ghosting (ads not showing up) and programs to help with your Craigslist marketing efforts but something that I didn’t think to mention at the time – and thought might be an interesting tidbit for those of you who don’t know this, is that Craigslist literally has a flagging forum and an army of flaggers – I like to refer to these people as the ‘Big Brother of Craigslist’. They watch all!

These flaggers are in addition to your competition who will flag your ad to keep theirs at the top and try to dominate the business; or just PITA people who are just plain annoying.

The ‘Big Brother’ clan of Craigslist apparently watches ads that are posted and if they feel that any rule has been broken whatsoever they flag it- this includes multiple ads, ads they feel are miscategorized or feel are misleading, ads posted in caps, and a million other reasons – some maybe legit but many petty.

These watch dogs ban together and help each other flag. They will share the ad that they feel needs to be flagged and everyone joins in and flags it. It appears they literally have people that do this all day and all day – as if it’s their life. They take it way too seriously.

So what does this mean for you as a Craigslist marketer? It means that you have an army of people firing the flag button for any reason at all and often even for no good reason. It means that not only do you have a forum of people ready to take your ads down but you also have other marketers (your competition) having your ads removed using flagging software. And you even have some people who just have nothing better to do and find it to be fun.

Unfortunately, with all of these odds stacked against you, the only thing you can really do is fight back.

You can use a Craigslist Auto Ad Poster and Flagging Software that will automatically post your ads for you (and more) and you can use flagging software for your own needs.

Craigslist ad not showing up? It’s called ad ghosting.

If you have posted a Craigslist ad and it’s not showing up, even though the status is ‘published’, your ad has been “ghosted”.

Craigslist does this if its system labels you a spammer.  This makes spammers think their ads have been posted but really they’re not.  Most big-time spammers won’t take the time to actually look to see if their ad is listed.

I’ve seen several explanations for the algorithm used to determine someone is a spammer from the amount of html code used to the number of ad posted.

Now all of your ads are being ghosted.  So how do you get your account out of this status?  It’s not easy.  There are a few things you need to do.

• go to your account and delete as many of your currently published ads as possible, particularly any posted within 48 hours of each other
• clear your browser cache, cookies, etc. – and do this each time or two you post ads from here on out
• wait at least 48 hours before posting again

I found that changing your ip address helps too.  There are several ways to do this, one way is to unplug your modem for a while…the amount of time varies with your provider.  Or you can do a release/renew of your ip address through the command box.

If you have run into this problem, then you’re probably posting a lot of ads or posting fairly frequently.  My suggestion is to purchase Craigslist Marketing/Advertising Software.  It’s totally worth the investment to keep your Craigslist ad campaigns running smoothly and to avoid trying to undo ghosted accounts.
